CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic Techniques

Attending Logan University afforded Dr. Micovsky with a unique opportunity to be certified in a vast array of treatment/adjusting techniques. At Logan the students begin hands-on adjustments very early on which, coupled with these additional certifications, allows the young chiropractors the chance to hone their abilities and cater their skill sets/tools to each patient, ensuring maximum treatment effectiveness.

Although Dr. Mario primarily utilizes the diversified technique as the foundation for his treatments, he will always cater to each individual patient depending on their diagnosis/body type and personal preference. An adjustment can be HVLA (high velocity low amplitude) or tonal (ligamentous contact). Both are very effective.

Treatment Philosophy

Micovsky Chiropractic  is a patient-centered, evidence-based practice focusing on the body as a functional unit. The goal is always to restore optimal and natural movement specific to that patient, as well as a focus on overall health and wellbeing. A core tenet at  Micovsky Chiropractic is that health revolves around three main components:

1. Movement

2. Nutrition/Diet

3. Sleep/Relaxation.

At Micovsky Chiropractic the focus is not just on the physical health; the clinic takes a serious consideration of a patient’s mental well being as well.

Chiropractic Services

  • Adjustment - Spinal Manipulation Therapy: One of the most common therapies a chiropractor uses is spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), which can comprise a variety of adjustment techniques. Specific training in SMT allows chiropractors to provide highly-skilled and precise adjustments to the vertebrae of the spine, correcting joint motion to restore proper movement and improve function and decrease muscular tone

  • IASTM (Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Therapy): This technique utilizes tools/instruments on affected areas. Often, patients with soft-tissue injuries do not seek out therapy until the injuries have become chronic (weeks/months after injury).

    • By this point, the body has completed most of its self-healing process. Scar tissue and adhesions are formed during this healing process, which limits motion and often causes pain. Scar tissue and adhesions essentially act like super glue in your body. When scar tissue is created after injury, new cells are laid down excessively and in a disorganized manner. Scar tissue/adhesions prevent the muscle or other tissues from lengthening appropriately. It is often necessary for the therapist to restart the healing process in order to remodel the soft tissues in the affected area.

    • By introducing controlled micro-trauma to affected soft tissue using IASTM, a local inflammatory response is stimulated. This microtrauma initiates reabsorption of inappropriate or excessive scar tissue and facilitates a remodeling of the affected soft-tissue structures. After IASTM treatment, scar tissue can be remodeled so that the cells become organized in a direction that better promotes movement.

  • Muscle/Myofascial Release Therapy: A manual technique used treat skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.

  • Low Level Laser Therapy: Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), commonly known as laser therapy or photo-therapy, involves the application of light energy at specific wavelengths and power densities to penetrate into tissues and be absorbed by cells.  The effect is not thermal, but instead related to photo-chemical reactions in the cells.  These cumulative cellular benefits result in progressive improvements and sustained results.

  • Rehab/Home Exercise Programs: Musculoskeletal conditions require proper recovery and in order to do so, they require proper exercise and movement. In order for therapy to be as effective as it can be, Micovsky Chiropractic will not only talk to a patient about exercises, but will teach the patient how to perform these therapeutic exercises on site to provide optimal care and rehab.

  • Support between sessions: have you ever wished that your health care provider was more accessible? We’ve wished that too!
